I think its the kind of book that rewards rereading again (and would be a very good bookclub-book, imo) but I don't necessarily....want to

I think the cover art fits the vibe of the story *perfectly*

and in a way that is really, really thoughtful about most of its characters, I thought

red herrings abound. The final explanation is convoluted and took a very long time to unravel, imo. I listened to this as an audiobook; that may have skewed some of my reaction to this book; it felt quite long

it's a very literary mystery (not a classic sort of mystery), with stuff to say about gender and growing up and family and self-reliance in a way that (this is what I was not sure was working, or was gonna work) does Not, somehow, become a weird libertarian screed, which I appreciated

there's not an good way to describe the plot without spoiling it (book is: The God of the Woods) but: a girl goes missing in the same place her brother did, over a decade before

and the town and the law descends, and the family circles up again, to try to figure out how and why, and what to do

I'm not really entirely sure if....the plotlines and details all fell perfectly in place at the end of that, but it *felt* like they did, and that felt good, and so I am quite glad I finished reading this

very sage advice, for sure!

It's not making me....angry at it; I'm more curious why it's giving me this feeling than expecting it to resolve 🤔

will report back

if the ending will be "worth it"

like, books with that unsettled/tension/distress element; I want to have a catharsis at the end
and I'm not sure where this book would go to give me that

this one is set at a summer camp and big fancy house in the Adirondacks, in the 60s and 70s (the book is The God of the Woods, by Liz Moore)

it's got some of that; the setting drew me in. I think it's.....I am unsettled by this book. I think the ending will make or break it, and right now I am not

Ms. Marple and Hawaii Five-O together; and I love the Miss Fisher tv series); a large part of the fun in that is the places and the costumes

(esp: historical mysteries. Bc I've had some good experiences with those

I think it's interesting to see what kinda mysteries the author thinks are universal, how the setting affects what unfolds, etc. Plus, I like a mystery with a lot of description of the setting (my sister and I would watch

as a librarian, I liked pushing myself out of my comfort zone to read/watch/listen to genres I normally don't, 'cause: I dunno, I thought that would help make me a better reader, and be able to give better book recommendations

and so I am trying more mysteries

Unsure About, and it is....not a pleasant story to exist in, ya know?)

I want to finish the dang thing just to see how it turns out, but I probably wouldn't if it didn't have a hold waitlist a mile long, you know?

that kind of book
