Through RNAi knockdowns, we dissected roles of major ECM players:
• Collagen IV → essential to form fibers
• Laminin + Collagen IV → smooth groove-like indentations
• Nidogen → maintains grooves
• Perlecan → boosts pattern amplitude across all scales

We found the surface is “self-affine” (structurally similar across scales) and features thin, fiber-like ridges aligned mainly along the anterior-posterior axis. Nature’s fractals at work! 🌿 #Fractals #Morphogenesis
