Shen skids to a halt in front of Life but it's too late -- the needle has popped the balloon, it's shape still vaguely outlined in the air by the chunks of yellow rubber now falling apart. Panel 3: Yellow balloon chunks rain down, a few landing on Shen's messy hair. He is distraught.
