Theoretically the side roads are local jurisdiction, and there's nothing stopping improvements happening there

I know this isn’t new news, at least for the Brooklyn neighborhood. Most of the listed intersections have had those crosswalk closed signs for years

The planters block southbound traffic on 9th but allow for bikers to take the box and continue north or east if you’re headed to Clinton

All conflicts with cars have been eliminated

Curb extensions shorten the existing 70 ft crossings

Limit outbound n’hood traffic to the only direction they can go anyway

Prioritize bus routes that turn north on 9th and redirect northbound cars to Milwaukie, 10th, 8th

Cars that need to turn where it’s now blocked only go east or west 1 block

Here’s my best shot at what it should look like. It would only cost the smallest curb build outs, two concrete planters, and some paint

There's no marked crossings (yellow) here. Traveling north, you have to cross oncoming traffic twice, and hope the drivers running the stop sign (red) don't kill you because they're looking to their left

Not to mention cars taking illegal turns north and south here _across_ the middle double-yellow

It's also just a waste of time and money because car drivers still just run over the fucking signs on the sidewalk

Instead of doing anything to make Powell less of a death trap, they become compliant by saying there's no crosswalk here to begin with, then shunt you to this horrible overpass
