This is technically a read-only version of one of my classes I am writing called Asexual and Polyamory, but it is today's #WIP, this week's main priority.

You could say I kind of went through something similar to the stages of grief. First, there was a euphoric sense that there were people who felt like I did about sexual relationships. For once, I wasn’t weird because “who doesn’t enjoy…” doing those things with their partners. But as I read more and came across the asexual self-hate in the community itself and the allosexual anger, there was denial because maybe I was so wrong. After all, those things didn’t sound like me. I wasn’t trying to use sex against my partner(s) or hold them back from happiness, or withhold a fundamental human need. Then there was the anger at me because I couldn’t fix my broken relationship with sex and make myself like it. There was also anger that there were people who felt I needed to be fixed because of my lack of interest in sex. I was angry that when I came out because I finally knew what was up, my partner was angry because I apparently lied. People felt that no one really needed to talk about the asexual experience, especially in sex-positive spaces, because they were apparently inherently sex-negative. People still thought I was broken, but now I hated that they had sex lives. After that came the years of trying to get people to understand that my lack of attraction didn’t have to mean what they thought it meant. I spent so much time trying to learn myself and all the ways I could twist and bend my sexual behavior to fit others and navigate their discomfort because I was still too confused about their anger over something that didn’t make sense to me. How did my finding and understanding of my sexual identity take from them? How was I inherently sex-negative when, honestly, I was mostly just disinterested in sexual behaviors for myself? It hurt, and in the early years of interacting in the ace community, it was hard.

That’s why I was trying to get a job, Eli.” He sighed loudly, clearly frustrated by my choices. “Luca, come stay at the pack house.” He instructed. “I can’t,” I said flatly as I registered the light cramps in my middle. “Why?” He asked, rising frustration evident in his voice. “You won’t just accept that I can’t, will you?” “No.” “My heat is starting,” I mumbled out. He was silent for a moment, and then he let out a groan. “Luca, where are you? You can’t be out alone during your heat.” He was exasperated at this point. I could imagine him sitting at his desk, pulling at his strands in frustration at this point.

Which was another thing about his family. They saw him for who he was and never questioned him from the start. Didn’t question that he was male, despite him growing up with people calling him names when he insisted he was a boy. They accepted him as he was. Illiterate. Ignorant. Poor. It didn’t matter. To them, he was their equal even when he struggled to see it himself.
