Confessions of a Detroit drummer/multi-instrumentalist. Unsolicited hot takes on avant-garde jazz to pop. A musical whore typing into the void.

Aimee Mann calls him "literally the best singer I ever heard", and I couldn't agree more. This long awaited documentary on Jeff Buckley is going to be incredible.

I had no idea that Mitch Mitchell became the drummer of the Jimi Hendrix experience through a coin toss. The great Aynsley Dunbar, who went on to play with Whitesnake, Frank Zappa, Jeff Beck, and others, was up for the gig, and Jimi couldn’t decide. So they flipped a coin, and the rest is history

Badass.

I also challenge anyone to come up with a bass player who looks more badass onstage than Tony Levin.

This one? 🤩

The Australian band Wolfmother took its name from a line in this book:

“This is the room of the wolfmother wallpaper.”

It was my first and still favorite Tom Robbins novel.

Becoming Led Zeppelin in IMAX. Incredible.

Walton Goggins is one of the best! (Michael Shannon too).

I would add Michael Kenneth Williams.

I need to amplify this absolutely incredible story coming out of Detroit this morning. A cagey promoter managed to get a black metal show booked at Harpo’s, while keeping the fact that the bands were all neo-nazi/white supremacists away from the black owners of the club.

The CEO of some dumb Ai music company, Mikey Shulman, said; “I think the majority of people don’t enjoy the majority of the time they spend making music." Obvious bullshit. But with a tiny kernel of truth. 1/3

Distrokid understands that it takes all sorts to make a record. Here’s a partial list of their “contributors” list:

One of the all-time greats - aided by a band that dances their asses off onstage! I just can't get enough of the bass player.

Gary Numan - Metal. Royal Oak Music Theatre, March 2024.

My favorite rock poster artist is the Australian, Rhys Cooper. I’ve got three of his pieces.

I’m a big fan of hyperbole but some headline writing is just out of control.

I also read yesterday that Conor Oberst tried to stop his label from signing Creed. He said they were a “really bad Pearl Jam” Indeed. 🤣🤣🤣

I had mine in 2005, and alas didn’t name him Charlotte either. But that is around the time it shot up. Hmmm.

I’ve long been a fan of former White Zombie bassist Sean Yseult’s wallpaper designs. She was at Parson’s School of Design when she joined the band so it’s no surprise she’s doing this. Really fun stuff.

For the vertically-challenged drummer on your Christmas list! Yes, it’s real.

My BlueSky posts roasted by this AI - flippin’ hilarious! “Overanalyzing music like it's a Dostoevsky novel”…sounds about right. LOL.

With Trinity College Dublin releasing a high resolution version of the 9th Century Illuminated Manuscript, “The Book Of Kells”, I can finally reveal that the coming of Pajama Phantom was foretold on those very pages 12 centuries ago. Take a look.

Tonight it begins!

I usually win since I spend precious little time in malls or stores that might play “The Little Drummer Boy”. Of course, now that I’ve said that….😳

When I bought this compilation in the late 80’s I had no idea who the dB’s were. I just loved the album cover. They’re widely viewed as one of the godfathers of power pop. Still obsessed with every song.

I’ve always viewed my solo instrumental work on Pajama Phantom as a soundtrack to something. A friend of mine figured it out and told me my music is like a soundtrack to space p*rn! Yeah, I’ll go along with that. 😜

I had a 4-track minidisc recorder. Seems silly now but it was great back then!
