khutu is a sunflower! big, tall, and cheerful, he's always reaching for the sun and trying to bring it into his and others' lives. it also repreresents adoration and unconditional love, which fits his puppy-like nature and the way in which he expresses his love for the people around him.

xeph's one biggest regret is that they hurt their mentor. since it happened before the echo and time loops took over, there's no going back and undoing it, even if they could return to the jungle.

i never got very in depth with prompts like "if your WoL/OC was a boss fight what would it be like" but giving it some thought now i think it'd be neat if, rather than two distinct phases, they'd go back and forth between a normal form and an enshrouded form where they're much faster and more aggressive... ok I might be thinking of monhun a little bit lmao... but it'd be neat if you could knock them out of enshroud by doing enough damage in their standard form there'd be conal aoes/TBs, a scythe attack that swings down vertically and hits the ground causing a line aoe that ripples outward... i think there'd be a mechanic based on harpe (portal, aoes, portal back) that happens semi often a dreaded add phase with the Keres... each one that hits you gives you a debuff stack and if you get all 3 you Just Die if there were a classic phase 2 it'd be a full berserker enshroud where they lose their shit and go completely feral. some line aoes from the claws, knockbacks from the wings, tail whips, aoes from dropped feathers story wise it'd probably be like... they're a retired adventurer and they're either testing the party's mettle or think the party is going to endanger the area/world/universe with their plans. probably the latter if they're eventually going full feral maybe a "I'll beat you up so you're too tired to go throw yourselves at death" and then when you beat them they go back to normal and concede that the party is strong enough to go on

in the modern AU, xeph and khutu bond over food and cooking, taking turns each week to make something to share. it's been really fun to look up recipes to write about, without having to stress about actually making the food! except then i can't eat it.

their gender... it's not the same as mine, but it's closer than anything else i've written short of my actual self insert. and that distinction is important - it helps me define what i am and am not. but they are a big source of gender euphoria for me 💚

khutu likes when xeph is asleep - it's one of the few times they seem to shed their burdens. sometimes they look at the stars that way, too.

xeph likes seeing khutu react to new things. his curiosity and wonder remind them of what they used to be like, the reason they started adventuring.

They murmur unintelligibly and shift closer to him. He wishes he could explain to them why a moment like this is so precious to him. xeph usually expresses themself subtly, but they don't really hide it. they'll refuse to elaborate if prodded, but it'll be obvious when they're happy or upset.

screenshot of text in discord from oct 10. it's me rambling about xeph's relationship with emotional openness. text reads: it's definitely more nuanced than just "toxic masculinity" (or as they put it in the video, "limiting masculinity") because both rava and eorzean culture have a different view of gender norms. where xeph is from, the women are equally as strong and ruthless as the men. if anything it'd be xeph's tendency toward solitude that reads as masculine within that context and they act very differently around certain people - they're guarded around their peers as a child, the bnuy polycule, and the town guard in eorzea, but around their best friend and their mentor, they're much more genuine and open, honest with themself and their feelings, allowing themself to be vulnerable as they go through the loops and start distancing themself from everyone, they go back to that solitary mode where they withdraw and shut themself off. they act callous to ward people away and resort to self-deprecation as a coping mechanism, not because they believe others will think them weak for having emotions - but because they themself can't deal with the despair that comes with resetting and after shb and through to post-EW and DT, once they've had a chance to heal with the power of love and all that, they get to be vulnerable and honest again. grief still hurts, but they finally get a chance to practice showing their burdens to someone else and feel the relief that comes with that support. and once they get the hang of that they're able to pass it forward to others as well

it comes up more in certain moods/styles of prose (eg. Scythes & Starlight) than others (eg. Three of Crowns). works best when paired with a longer block of text. contrast!

one of the few things i won't change about xeph is that they can't have biological kids. this will not stop me from making one up anyway, in an AU where they go back to khutu somewhere around the ~800th loop and live as a weaver with occasional anxiety attacks in exchange for a quiet, happy life. +
