Why is Firefox demanding I accept a new Terms of Use and Privacy Policy? I thought it was licensed under the Mozilla Public License but I guess now there are NEW terms you have to click through. WTF.

“You didn’t shutdown your PC properly! Always choose Shutdown from the Start menu!”

I DID, and after it sat at “shutting down” for five minutes gave up and power-cycled it. How is turning off a Windows PC so goddamn hard these days?!

Ah, freezing fog, what a wonderful type of weather to come outside to.

Also, my favorite part of Apple’s CarPlay: having to reboot my phone while driving because third party CarPlay apps have mysteriously stopped working.

(Or, “why just use Google Maps isn’t always helpful:” Pretty sure that’s 0°N, 0°E on that map.)

I know Apple doesn’t do feedback but I really, really wish Apple would remove the useless “preferred route” crap from Maps. It makes them useless. If I’m looking up directions, I don’t want “the route I always take,” I want to know the fastest route given current conditions.

Looks like the Democratic response to the invasion of Venezuela is going to be… yelling at their own voters about how terrible Maduro is and how they should be ashamed for supporting him when they expect US law to be followed.

The Stranger Things finale has been out for *less than 24 hours*, do I really need 50 articles in my news feed “explaining” it?

It’s amazing how often the answer to “can I stop Apple’s software from doing Annoying Thing?” is “Yes! Doing so will also disable these twenty unrelated things. You cannot just disable the specific Annoying Thing on its own.”

I was fairly confident iOS 26’s “preferred route” misfeature overrides the actual fastest route, but now I’m sure: watched a 15 minute ETA according to the “driving directions” button jump to 18 minutes when the “preferred route” was applied.

I hadn’t noticed how absolutely useless the Windows 11 “Start” menu is until search entirely broke. Finding your installed programs is basically impossible, it’s faster to just browse your hard drive.

Oh good, the Steam replay is out!

“This year, you bought 10 new games!

Of those, you played 1 of them for 1.3 hours!”
December 16, 2025 at 9:03 PM
Well, that was a new one: rather than resuming the Christmas music playlist I had been playing, CarPlay/Apple Music decided to play “Hardware Store” by @alyankovic.bsky.social when I got into my car… and nothing else. Just that.

It’s really annoying how much Frontlines PvP in FFXIV boils down to:

“OK, the scores are about even, so we have a real shot at this as long as…”

Game: lol free objectives to the other two teams!

“…sigh”

Also fun with Disney+ is that you can’t cast to a TV unless you connect to a wifi network while the app is open. Which beats Netflix, who removed that functionality entirely.
December 8, 2025 at 1:00 AM
Sometimes you wonder why Netflix is “winning” in streaming, and sometimes you discover that not only is there no way to “mark as watched” on Disney+, the only way to get it off your “continue watching” list is to mark it “not interested” entirely at which point it will permanently vanish.

“Oh boy, I finally figured out this puzzle, and… a missile tank.” - yep, Metroid Prime 4 is definitely a true Metroid game.

I wonder if WoW adding housing will get FFXIV to remember
1. Housing exists
2. They said they were adding more furnishing slots for houses this expansion
3. Housing is “full” on most servers

If anyone was curious if Apple Maps “preferred routes” feature is smart enough to avoid a closed road that would otherwise be “preferred” - it sure isn’t! (Sure, it will calculate a detour around the closed part, but it still replaces the faster route that avoids it entirely!)
December 4, 2025 at 11:14 PM
Ah yes, my favorite part of plugging in a new USB-based mouse to a Windows computer: the part where it needs TWO REBOOTS to use it.
December 2, 2025 at 4:22 AM
I can’t imagine anyone at Apple has ever driven a car, ever, because that’s the only thing that can explain CarPlay constantly getting worse.

Windows 11: “you’ve made absolutely no changes whatsoever to your PC. It must be rebooted for absolutely no reason other than to replay the ‘out of box experience’ wizard to whine about you not using our subscription services.”

Did something I’d yet to do this #PAXUnplugged: I bought a game AND I played it! Trombone Champ by @jasonanarchy.bsky.social - a card game based on @trombonechamp.bsky.social. It’s a lot of fun! And has hot dogs!

Ah, nothing like heading to your destination on the only high-speed rail in the US.

And we’ve left the only part of the trip where the train can reach high speeds so it’s time to spend the rest of the trip capped at 45MPH.
November 20, 2025 at 2:44 PM
It’s actually kind of impressive how much worse iOS 26 made Apple Maps. Thanks to the new “preferred route” misfeature, it’s now literally useless for going anywhere near places you usually go. And you can’t turn off “preferred routes” without turning off all suggestions entirely.
