For Halloween this year, I dressed up as none other than Miss Frizzle. My students have been asking me to do it for years and so this year I finally obliged.

I saw a friend this morning when I went out to get something from the garage.

We’re getting closer. The plants need to dry out and the seed pods too. Hopefully in the next couple weeks.
Keep pestering me. 😉

There’s been a murder in my yard!

The hedgehog has been killed and its heart ripped out, but it continues to smile.

Jasper, the geology dog. ⚒️

As a geologist I must share that there is no dirt. There is soil and various sediment and they are all beautiful. ⚒️🧪

Z and Ryan had both mentioned they seen a squirrel in the neighborhood and I saw it this morning too. It’s in our neighbors tree. It appears to be black, maybe a melanistic form of an eastern gray?

He’s a big teenage stinker now. Come to think of it so is Z. Help Janine. I’m surrounded by teenage boys!

This is Jasper trying so hard to be friends with the cat who is staying safely away on the fence .

It went great! I used a walking to class example- we were getting ready to do a seed planting experiment.
I think Ss will need to do this a few more times for it to stick, but it definitely made the concepts clearer and helped them design their experiments .
Here’s the example we did on the board .

We’re at our family cabin today cleaning up the yard and creating better defensible space.
It really sucks that the other families don’t do this when they’re here . This alone took an hour.
And there’s a lot more to be done .

Great piece- take the time to read and think about it.

Today I finally got the Oak Titmouse on my bird buddy feeder. There are 2 of them but they are so fast it’s hard to get a picture.

Hey, does anybody know what this symbol means?
August 30, 2025 at 7:43 PM
Normally, in the morning after Jasper goes out to go potty, he comes back in and lies on the bed with us. Today he didn’t and he was so quiet. We wondered why.

My school district is on lightning protocol lockdown which means students cannot go outside until lightning is further away than 10 miles.
Unfortunately for everyone today thunderstorms storms to the east are just parked and popping off and they’ve been there since 10am. 😳🤦‍♀️

It’s still August and the days have been hot, but many of the large pistache trees in town have leaves that are turning color already.
