The Slender-billed Curlew was declared extinct in October 2025.

Today I collected an audio recorder I left in the Fens with the aim of getting some nice Wigeon recordings. Incredibly it also picked up this Richard's Pipit flying through on the morning of 6th November! xeno-canto.org/1053297 #UKBirding

Shaun Peters recently updated his list of bird species not yet sound recorded. According to him: 144 species left. Check it out here: xeno-canto.org/article/241 . About 400 species are missing from XC, so there's about 250 that one of you can just add! Go for it.

Our friend the Catalonian Midwife Toad was first described as a new species in 2021 when it was separated from the Common Midwife Toad! Like other midwife toads, the male protects the eggs by carrying them until they hatch! (photo by Léo Souillard)
