Spoilers: Having the context that this is Miyazaki’s final film before retirement did hit hard when it came to The Wizard, and his stories of a world he has created and shaped falling apart. I feel I may gain more of an appreciation and understanding of the story with a second viewing and with age.

There were no English performances I felt were bad, with Pattinsons dark yet whimsical portrayal of the Heron reminding me that actors can get lost in an impressive voice role. 

My main issue was the story, but I feel that will change with a second viewing. (And education on Japanese symbolism)

The music and animation are beyond superb, with visuals and motifs that will stay with me for a while after viewing. 

For my sins, I watched the Dub, a trend I’ve had with Ghibli films since Spirited Away.

Piracy affects the revenue stream of a piece of media, which affects the executive producers and other higher ups that receive -actual- residuals not the below the line crew.

The only way it affects below the line is if studios stop hiring purely because of piracy, instead of budget.

Then to top it all off are unimpressive, or outright bad cinematography that makes it out as if every scene wasn’t rehearsed or blocked with a camera on set.

It’s really sad seeing a film based around the wizard of Oz immediately lose me when it shows the yellow brick road as a pastel bland yellow, and the rest of the colour choices, costume design and set design keep with the bland, pastel, colourless tones.

Never gonna forget walking out of the cinema with all the emotions and creative sparks this brought on

Not opposed to director cameos, but if Gunn appears in multiple films as Lord AND keeps the character the same as the comics it’ll be an RDJ Dr Doom moment
