Between the "Treat her like crap" alpha males and the "BARE MINIMUM!" crap, you'd be an absolutely immature emotional child if you tried to run a relationship based on what you hear.

I was reading an Orson Scott Card book where he prescribed this for gay people.
Get married like god wants, avoid the gay temptation. Imagine your gay lovers if you have to so you can have sex and make babies like a good Mormon/Christian/whatever.

My experience with all the people whose relationships I personally know is that there are just as many women as men who give in to the "marriage is about efficiency, romance eventually fades, let's just not even try anymore" schtick, but I don't have a scientific study on that or anything.

This sounds like someone who bought into the "the honeymoon ends eventually" bullshit, so she just gave up in advance.
I'd love to get her husband's perspective.
Is he enforcing this attitude as well?
Or is he wondering, "What the hell happened to my loving, romantic girlfriend?"

It sounds like 25 year olds are too mature for him, so what chance would he have with a 53 year old?

When someone does something awful, the first thing to do is assume it's because they themselves are awful.
