Commercial and civil interests in the United States along the Mississippi River Valley should beware of severe weather today. An elevated risk of significant, long-tracked tornadoes exists concurrently with a historic flood potential from extreme southern Illinois through most of eastern Arkansas.

A categorical tornado risk of 30% within 25 miles of any point within this area centered over central Mississippi and Alabama is outlined. A 15% probability extends around this area. A 10% risk is expected as far as the Florida panhandle, all of Tennessee, east Louisiana, and west Georgia.

A major tornado outbreak is expected today from east Louisiana to Georgia, with nearly all of Tennessee under an Enhanced (3/5) or Moderate (4/5) risk of severe weather. All severe modes are expected, especially damaging straight-line winds. Many violent, long-tracked tornadoes are expected.

The Synoptic Modeling Asset Pool have identified a (and supported by the National Weather Service) a multi-day severe weather threat across the US Midwest and Dixie Alley on Friday and Saturday. Interests in these areas are advised to consult local forecasts and media outlets for safety information.
