I think, for a character to be interesting, they have to have autonomy, which means making mistakes. If everything’s a misunderstanding or Stolas fault, it takes away Blitzø ability to be an active participant in his own story.

I’m glad you appreciate this! I love both of their characters. It just frustrates me to see so many fan do mental gymnastics to explain why Blitzøs actions are never actually the fault of his own internal issues, but some misunderstanding that Stolas caused

It’s a commentary on how people are forced into parenthood through cultural expectations and then are shamed when they want to be a person outside of that. Complicated “unlikable” parent figures are some of my favorite characters.

He did know!! He just wasn’t ready to admit it because he’s a flawed man who projects his self loathing outwards! And that’s great. That makes him an interesting character. Fans erase what makes him so dynamic when they blame Stolas for all the bad between them.

it just feels deeply unfair how much of the onus the fandom puts on Stolas for Blitzø actions in these episodes. I can’t tell you how many stolitz fics I’ve read that erase all accountability on the part of Blitzø because “how was he supposed to know Stolas has feelings for him when Stolas did xy&z”

Stolas is expected to act perfectly in the face of Blitzø cruel words and dismissal because he hurt Blitzø in ways that Blitzø won’t actually articulate. Meanwhile Blitzø is given all the grace of a misunderstood victim and everything he does to Stolas is deemed Stolas fault in one way or another.

Yes, Stolas had his part to play, but the majority of Blitzø outburst, and his dismissive behavior towards Stolas, isn’t about Stolas at all. It’s about his own issues that he’s yet to address.

And even if he did, it wouldn’t have mattered, because Blitzø isn’t in a place where he’s ready to listen. His self loathing is too big.

A lot of fans argue that Stolas had all these expectations of Blitzø in “full moon.” But “when I see him” tells us the opposite. He’s ready to accept whatever Blitzø response will be. He expects rejection. But the flat out denial of his feelings is something he has no recourse for.

Even when Stolas is as clear as day light about how he feels and what he wants, Blitzø still denies the reality right in front of him.

Despite what many fans believe, the show makes it clear that Blitzø does know Stolas has feelings for him. His conversation with fizz during their kidnapping. The line “I’m getting by by avoiding his questions”. He’s just unwilling to admit it to himself.

But despite that, Blitzø refuses to met Stolas’s honesty with any of his own. He wants to have Stolas, but only on his own terms, without acknowledgment of their mutual feelings. Because his self loathing is so encompassing that it blinds him to everything.

Then Blitzø shows up at the palace to ask for the deal back while simultaneously demeaning Stolas’s feelings and personhood. He objectifies Stolas to the point of making Stolas uncomfortable, to the point Stolas is begging him to stop.

Stolas gives Blitzø the crystal to remove the power he has over Blitzø in their current relationship. Blitzø doesn’t want to hear that though. He likes the transactional part of their relationship b/c it allows him to be with Stolas w/o acknowledging the feelings they both share for each other.

Blitzø is allowed to be messy and project all his self loathing onto Stolas and not have to apologize for it while Stolas must always be a martyr who just accepts that treatment as his own fault. It’s like yall don’t understand that Blitzø took advantage of him too.
