“The critics” were apparently one newspaper critic who was some sort of mega douchebag with a thing against Kubelik. The more I hear his recordings, the bigger fan I become. The Reiner era was brilliant, but I’d argue Kubelik’s made the CSO was one of the most exciting orchestras in the country

I played my mint OG promo pressing a couple weeks back. It was glorious. Sibelius is one of those composers who always brings joy, but that I’ve somehow never taken the time to go deeper. He and more Mahler are my New Years music goals.

Ooh! I love this. I have the OG pink vinyl that I totally couldn’t afford at the time but gave up a couple of dinners to do so. lol. There was a DVD-A HiRez issue of this on that failed format that was amazing too! This band was at its creative peak

It’s a fun piece of music, but I certainly don’t need to hear it again for another year at least, lol! I hadn’t realize how many versions ended up in my possession over the years until recently, so I figured why not play ‘em all? Cool to hear the different artistic and technical choices.

There’s also the Ormandy from the mid-60s that I own on a surprisingly great sounding #cassette. It might sit between the Davis and 1954 Munch. Last is the Barenboim. Beautiful recording by Tony Faulkner, but a slog of a performance.

The obvious point was to eliminate the building asap before anyone could stop them. It’s too late. They treated the east wing like a shotgun shack standing in the way of a new casino. Is this really a surprise to anyone?
