It is genuinely unfathomable how out of touch people can be. I am definitely naive, and becoming less so as I get older, but I guess I want to believe that the people in power are SOMEWHAT competent.
The "E.T. carts getting buried in the desert" story often cites the game being bad (it was fine for the time crunch it was made under). The real problem was they made 5m ET carts when there were only 10m atari 2600 consoles sold. They expected *everyone* to buy one but gave no time for development.
Reminder: Atari didn't collapse in 1983-84 because their games were bad. It was because they had such unrealistic projections that even their top-selling titles were considered flops

With the awful news from the last couple hours, this post from the political optimism subreddit helped to break through a bit of the despair fog. Repubs know this is political suicide, ICE's support is crumbling despite the budget increase, and there's a myriad of ways to fight back. Keep strong.

Anecdotal, but I'm definitely noticing an uptick in advocacy for violence here. About which I'll say only this: Promoting violence on social media is the work of trolls and fools, those eager to bait others into implicating themselves in the age of surveillance or fools rushing to the gulag.

The question that’s been on my mind is the same as everyone else’s: Should I leave the US? It often feels like it might be the right decision, but I am nearly as privileged as I can possibly be, and I think I need to plant my feet and put all my effort into mutual aid.

this country is so cooked. there's no coming back from calculated evil at such an immense scale. get involved with mutual aid, pro-immigrant resources, groups that make it harder for ICE agents to act, community gardens – whatever you can do to help those around you. there is no other option
The fiscal conservatives in the GOP just added $4 trillion to the deficit to give the wealthiest people on earth a tax cut. The pro-family party just took healthcare away from 17 million Americans to give ICE a bigger budget than Brazil’s military. The single most inhumane bill ever passed.
