Encore of the #NorthernLights?

Another CME is about to hit Earth with impacts likely to continue into tonight. SWPC is predicting it to be similar to last night with #aurora potentially visible in almost every state... where it isn't cloudy:

The 22 degree halo & sun dogs were accompanied by a rare Parhelic Circle! It was faint, but my first time seeing one!

A great display of Undulatus Asperatus clouds over Pennsylvania yesterday. They can be tricky to photograph, but it helped that they hung around for hours.

Geologists at Yellowstone NP have picked up 13,000+ pieces of trash this year, including 300 hats, a pizza box with food still inside and even a stuffed koala bear: www.accuweather.com/en/leisure-r...

This tree went to the moon!

This Sycamore is one of dozens of trees growing around the world that went to the Moon with Apollo14 while they were still seeds. It was planted in Hollidaysburg, PA to commemorate the bicentennial.

It's an off year for the #Perseid meteor shower due to the moon, but some blaze so bright that the moonlight isn't an issue.

There's also a window between nightfall and moonrise to look for evening "earthgrazers" (I counted 6 of them last night in 30 minutes!) www.accuweather.com/en/space-new...

The #ISS will be making some bright passes over the US and Canada the next few evenings. Thursday night in particular is looking good: www.accuweather.com/en/space-new...

Lightning bug season is in full swing!

With the help of timelapse, you can actually see the movement of the fireflies. Video can’t capture just how incredible the light show is in person.

Multiple roads flooded in Tipton, PA after intense rain for an hour straight. This comes on the heels of one of the wettest Mays on record.

Cicadas are emerging in central PA! It has been tricky to find "cicada chimneys" on the ground due to all of the rain as of late, but the adults are shedding their exoskeleton and emerging with their wings. Still haven't heard any buzzing, but it's only a matter of time

This line of severe thunderstorms could create a "meteotsunami" on Lake Michigan -- essentially a weather-generated surge of water that may arrive along the coast of Michigan with the storms.

Small surprise to end April: A #firefly appeared in my backyard following a stretch of warm and wet weather (appears twice in the video)

2024 was a big year for lightning bugs, so this is a promising sign for another good year ahead!

A new, very large sunspot is rotating around to the Earth-facing side of the sun. This is likely the main feature to watch on the sun over the next week or two #spaceweather

Facebook pages are using AI to create misleading astronomy graphics/events.

Yes, the crescent moon will be near Venus and Saturn on Friday morning, but it will not look like the "smiley face" like this image suggests: www.accuweather.com/en/space-new...

Soil temperatures are slowly rising, and after they reach 64 degrees, the Brood XIV cicadas will begin to emerge.
