I just found a pretty decent-sized spider on a web under my car's driver's seat, but when I went to get it, it escaped.

Like, upwards, somehow.

Into the shadows, where it sharpens its fangs and awaits my return.

It could probably wait years...

You usually won’t find Jesus by searching for proof of him. That is, you don’t get to know him personally by analyzing him academically. You’ll wind up knowing more about Jesus than you did before, but you can only get to know Jesus by seeking him, and seeking him on his terms.
Looking for Jesus Without Ceasing
How the simple decision to keep following Jesus, despite my doubts and questions, has made all the difference.

“The Christian religion has sought to achieve its own innocence rather than act in solidarity with suffering and sinners.” - Richard Rohr

I am reading Richard‘s newest book, The Tears of Things, and this quote has me thinking so hard and so deep about where we are and why we are where we are. 🤯

Cicadas don’t sting. They don’t bite. They generally don’t harm the environment. But they’re still one of man’s most diabolical nemeses and can take human life and/or limbs depending on what activity you’re involved in when they haphazardly fly at your face. They also enjoy humiliating people.

Great reporting by Matt Shuham over at @huffington.bsky.social on how "know your rights" efforts are working. I get to do work for Christian organizations who are actively doing training and distributing these materials, and I wish every church in America would join them. #resist

There’s no greater evidence that "know-your-rights" training is working than from what Trump officials themselves have said.

COLBERT, on Rep. Al Green’s removal:

“Some people questioned why so much muscle was needed to remove an old man with a cane. But it turns out it was for a serious reason. When security searched him, they found that he smuggled in a spine."

Those with exorbitant power and wealth have a tendency to use their power to stack the economic odds in their own favor to collect more wealth while peddling the message that their wealth will somehow trickle down to the working class.

But it never quite trickles down, does it?
DOGE recommends cuts to the FAA.

Hundreds of workers get fired, including those tasked with producing air traffic navigation maps.

Now Starlink is reportedly in line to take over a $2 billion contract to upgrade the nation's air traffic control systems.

See how this works?

I grew up hearing from my working class extended family that government is the problem and needs to be downsized.

I don’t think they anticipated corporate corruption and pillaging of the working class by billionaires as the other side of the pendulum swing.

“Church is a moment in time when the kingdom of God draws near, when a meal, a story, a song, an apology, and even a failure is made holy by the presence of Jesus among us and within us.”

~ Rachel Held Evans, Searching for Sunday

It isn’t perfection that matters. You’ll never quite get there.

It isn’t progress that matters most. It’s nice. It’s important. But it isn’t what life is about.

The PROCESS through which we become what we were meant to be? THAT’s what matters.
