If you are on Instagram, have a look at @swanseahistory where you can find something I have shared for Halloween - a story about a Kidwelly family having a spooky premonition and the mother declaring that her son had died, several days before they received any notification

Today in my lecture about the extra-European Fronts in WW1 I used this image to illustrate the Mesopotamia campaign. 17 men from Nebo’s Congregational chapel (Ceredigion) served in the war and two died – both from dysentery in Mesopotamia in 1916. (Poetry in Welsh to the pair in the next post) 1/2

Rwy wedi bod ar daith yn Llydaw am ychydig ddyddiau, gyda llyfr Owen M Edwards, Tro yn Llydaw, yn gwmni imi. Mae'n llawn ei ragfarnau - yn erbyn y Saeson a'r Ffrancwyr, ac yn erbyn Pabyddiaeth y Llydawyr. Fodd bynnag, mae'n poeni yn y rhagymadrodd, yn y dyfodol 'ni bydd y Llydawyr ond Ffrancwyr'...

An article in yesterday's Western Mail flagging up some research I'm doing - it looks like the nine 'happy girl munitions workers' in a much-publicised 1916 photo were from the Swansea National Shell Factory. I'm wondering whether any more names can be put to faces. Y gwaith oedd Baldwins, Glandŵr

While looking for something else, I have found a report of the unveiling of a plaque in a school in Whitland on St David's Day 1917 to nurse Edith Cavell, who was executed by the Germans in Brussels in Oct 1915. The inscription calls her 'a true daughter of the Empire'.
