I’m especially proud of the opening scene and the two main themes — and yeah, there’s also some shadowy ambient drone work balancing the lighter moments, gotta do something with my noisier synths!

It was a wonderful challenge to compose for this dark and unsettling, yet deeply humane story. I loved diving into the psychological and emotional nuances of each scene. Huge thanks to directors Eva-Maria Koskinen & Hannaleena Hauru for their guidance!

In our baby, I see an echo of myself, and of my wife.

At the hospital, the nurse was puzzled by my fascination with the OAE device. I wanted to tell her I'm gonna write about it, because it reflects a philosophical truth: listening is not just receiving but also transmitting. (Nancy mentions otoacoustic emissions briefly in his essay on listening.)

Sonance is a concept that I have developed while writing on philosophy of echo and reverb. It is a product of reading Jean-Luc Nancy and my own experience of using reverb in music. I have more blog posts coming about it, but basically it means the experience/presence of sound.

"Waveforms hitting the body", I love that! But it's true, sometimes you need to see an image of sound to hear its details. A great way to explain multimodal or mediated listening. :)

Now I want to turn this into an reverb plugin!
