Finish up at King William IV, The Flask or The Hollybush. It doesn't matter which one: if all goes to plan, at this point you should be too drunk to tell the difference.

Then take a leisurely stroll back over Hampstead Heath on your way to Hampstead High Street. I especially like the view of the ponds at sunset, although you need to be out before it gets dark as that's when all the dogging/cruising/cottaging begins: www.standard.co.uk/news/london/...

If this pub sounds familiar, it is mentioned in Dracula and The Pickwick Papers, and was allegedly where Keats penned Ode to a Nightingale.

At this point, you'll probably need to go for a walk in a token attempt at sobering up. Pay your respects to Karl Marx, Douglas Adams and others at Highgate Cemetery, before setting off over Hampstead Heath on your way to The Spaniards Inn www.thespaniardshampstead.co.uk#/

The Red Lion at the top of the hill has been voted the best pub in the country, so is probably worth a visit, although I can't say I've ever actually been in.

Fellow Python and "very naughty boy" Graham Chapman preferred The Angel a few doors down, but it's just been redeveloped and now feels more like a café than a pub.

Then, nip round the corner for a pint at the Prince of Wales (www.princeofwaleshighgate.co.uk) which has a plaque celebrating old regular Terry Jones.

Previous customers include Byron, Shelley and Keats, who used to drop in for a pint when visiting their friend and opium-enthusiast Samuel Taylor Coleridge, who lived just over the road (there is a blue plaque on his old house).

My favourite pub crawl to take non-Londoners starts here: www.theflaskhighgate.com
The oldest part of the pub dates back to 1663, while the newest was built around 1800.

I've tried this, but often you can still hear other people's music.

OK, a fair point about currency. This article sums up what I was trying to get at, about the stock market not being dependent on the economy: www.theguardian.com/business/nil...

About 70% of the revenues generated by FTSE 100 companies are from overseas. So it benefits from a weaker pound. This is why it actually did OK after the referendum. It also has a lot of financials, which benefit from higher interest rates.
