Hey I read the article and I totally agree. I agree with Pullum's that most of the mark-ups that the TA made were not passive.

This is my system of identifying and under that, I'd have to agree with Pullum.

Ty. I'm reading through it, but oh man. That early 2000 code-your-own website aesthetic. Brings me back ... to tumbler days.

hands up If you relate. 🙌

Yo, you look like you're super into Moby Dick. Tell me a cool whale fact. Isn't there like 200 pages of whale stuff in that book.

I like animal facts, but that was too much for me.

Actually, I have a good example here. I ranted about this in an article. I think the last sentence is much more clear, where as the first is super "business-y"

Let me know what you think.

Totally. But I think people use it too often where it's not needed. For example, news sources and some business writing where the subject is unimportant, 100% vote on passive voice. But, novels where it's character focused ¯\_(ツ)_/¯.

Thoughts?

You think so? I feel like a lot of writing is so passive. Maybe it's bleed off of business or report writing, but there's so much passivity...especially in fan fic.

Not to say, I do love me a good fan fic.

I wish someone would look at me, like he looks at that onion. #relationshipgoals.

See the example below and give it a go yourself. I promise you, if you're stuck on a story, it helps.
