So how does Tarantino do it?

He’s always been a master of characters. Even after all these years, Col. Hans Landa, lives rent free in my head. He wrote a complex character with no back-spiel.

So how does he do it? Check out our analysis below. It’ll be worth it:

Writers, a friendly reminder.

When you write your characters, make sure you copy their language.

Dentist? Use specific teeth words "A3 molars," which in normal English mean "your back teeth look a healthy color"

It's one way to complement someone's teeth ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Identifying passive voice:

A sentence has a doer (E.g. baseball) and a thing being done (E.g. hitting me). In natural speech, we put the doer first ("The baseball hit me."). Passive voice is putting the thing being done before the doer ("I was hit by the baseball.").

What is a book that had a big impact on you?

Mine's 'To Kill a Mocking Bird.'

When I was 14, I read this scene - the ladies of the Missionary Society want to help Africans but are blind to how they treat the blacks in their own community.

Something about that hit home.

What's yours? 💙📚

If your prose feels wooden, your description probably isn't active enough. Static objects are not just there. They're doing something.

Describing objects using strong verbs like “stood”, “fluttered”, “loomed” breathes life into your prose. 💙📚 #writers #writingadvice
