Copy with the first past the post system which directly lead to the two party system, and one party effectively using minority rule. Well it’s actually surprising we didn’t have a dictator sooner. We could feasibly blame the constitution itself for the failure of our democracy.
In Europe 25% of the population would give you 25% of parliamentary seats, such a party could be sidelined and ignored. In the USA 25% of the population gives you a majority of the senators. Five of 9 members of SCOTUS was picked by two presidents picked by the electoral college. Minority rule.

The second half we were free floating as Europe blew up the world through colonization before it blew itself up through two world wars & subsequent soviet occupation.
We only now are beginning to experience competition for the first time and we don’t know how to deal with it.

I’m beginning to think most of US history was incredible luck. We started with a moderate revolution that didn’t eat itself. Then we spent the first half expanding without anyone being able to stop us.

Is it just me or is anyone else feeling gaslit by the press about why people are protesting/vandalizing Teslas? It’s “his relationship with Trump” or it’s “his actions in DOGE” but they never seem to directly mention the NAZI salute. Why is the press so reluctant to call a spade a spade?
