Also, maybe Congress should put their Commerce Clause power to work and FEDERALLY LEGALIZE marijuana instead of letting the Executive agencies do whatever they want with the scheduling. Whose job is it exactly to make the law, again?

Overall, did I enjoy the movie? Yeah, I still had a fun time with it. But I did find the steps backward from the excellent first movie frustrating and disappointing. But I'd love to know what everyone else thought! I think there is a lot of love for the movie right now.

No coaching? No communing with mom about controlling the dream visions? Just Finn saying "fight back" loudly and frequently is enough for Gwen to totally turn the tables? How unsatisfying! Not to mention the film's overreliance on jump-scares.

The action in the first movie was grounded, and the whole movie built up the idea of these other victims training Finn to take on the Grabber and it culminates in a well-thought out sequence of trapping and killing him. This movie is Gwen getting totally throttled until she just... figures it out?

It's fair to say that they took a much campier approach to this movie, both in dialogue and the more slasher elements in the second half. But IMO it takes it WAY too far with the action. Gwen's scene in the phone booth and Finn getting garroted by the Grabber AT SPEED?? Dead! That would kill them.

What was going ON with the dialogue? One thing I loved about the 1st movie was the grounded interactions and reactions to the horrifying events surrounding the characters. Black Phone 2 has some of the CHEESIEST, most baffling lines I've heard from a serious horror movie. A phone call from heaven??

The way the lore builds on that of the first movie is good—I particularly like the expansion on Robin's character and family—and it doesn't discard the ideas presented. It fleshes out the rules a little bit and elaborates on many of the seeds that were planted in the original. Buuuuttttttt........

First, the good. The effects were excellent and the makeup was genuinely gnarly (Grabber's face reveal is crazy). I love the shift from Finn to Gwen as our MC, and Gwen's characterization is generally on point and consistent with the first movie, but just grown up a little.

So glad to see that the thriving community focused solely and voraciously on your Zelda hot takes is being recognized.

I am so seen

I'm sad I got into Berserk so late, but so happy that there is still a thriving community that I can be apart of now. I hope Kentaro Miura knew how much this series meant and will continue to mean to its fanbase for years to come.

I don't often feel emotional when finishing pieces of media, because there is always another great work to pick up afterwards, but fully diving into a person's life work was incredibly eye-opening. The dedication and love came through in every. Single. Panel.

More thoughts to come once I actually complete my playthrough, but at this point the characters, setting, gameplay, labyrinthian level design, and story are all realllly scratching that Silent Hill itch!

Very interesting movies to see together, totally different vibes and film philosophies on display. Both were enjoyable, but Good Boy was much more palatable. Anyone who likes a spooky October movie night will probably find enjoyment in Good Boy, and cinephiles will likely find value in Anemone.

Effects aside, it is absolutely incredible the amount of emotion they were able to get their (completely untrained!) dog to portray over the course of the movie. I am amazed by the hoops they jumped through and the meticulous editing they used to achieve the eeriness present throughout the film.

Good Boy: Was a really fantastic showcase of what patience, diligence, and editing in post can do even on a (very clearly) non-existent budget. The majority of the effects are clean and land well, but a couple in more lighted scenes were quite rough.
