Spotted a fire headed to Seattle today, had to look it up on the NIFC map. I’ve got a lot of respect for wildland firefighters after reading Young Men and Fire and keeping an eye on fires while at Army North for a few years.

Patrick “Patty” O’Rorke, the top graduate of West Point’s class of 1861, was killed in action on July 2, 1863, while leading the 140th New York Infantry to save the Union position on Little Round Top. He was 26 years old.

Hoping for a turnaround but the aggressive of Notre Dame is clear in this game. I’ve seen Army take Oklahoma and Michigan to overtime…that was because neither of those teams seemed to take Army seriously.

We have about the same number of feds as we had in the 1960s. As a percentage of the population, they are at historical lows. (We actually need more employees, esp. younger employees, but good luck recruiting them).

Took a break from reading about misinformation for a sea story. This was a quick read and a good reminder that wars often cost more in lives and treasure than expected. Also humans are tough and good order and discipline can dissolve pretty quick in the wild.
