As a Belgian living in Reading this plaque is my absolute favourite object in your collection. A reminder of the warm welcome Reading has provided to those seeking asylum from great attrocities in the past. @brussels.bsky.social #rdguk

Who on earth in Labour looks at the polls and goes "You know what, we just need to do press ahead"?

Pavements in new developments built with long sideways slopes to help poor underpowered SUVs get across them instead of human beings in wheelchairs.

Reminds me of this sign in Reading, on a road leading to a residential area with 30mph speed limits, wide corner radii, not a crossing in sight... but please, please drive carefully.

Double red lines AND blocking a cycle lane, well done 👏 #carspreading #rdguk @therealyplac.bsky.social

In Aug 2024, #rdguk saw the somewhat controversial introduction of a bus lane on London Road.

It was suggested that by converting one lane, congestion at a new pinch point would lead increased air pollution:

The opposite has in fact happened: air pollution has dropped!

In a residential area, one road leading to a primary school, the other to the town centre. Nobody would want to walk here, right?

Let's not inconvenience drivers, shall we? Just put in a 30m wide junction that's awful to cross on foot (and I imagine a nightmare for blind and disabled road users).

Really wasn't expecting this level of honesty from the car industry.

This new development in Emmer Green opened recently.

Wheelchair-unfriendly sloped pavements everywhere. A pavement that disappears. Good job.

What a treat! Christmas bike bus ride to Emmer Green Primary in the morning, bike bus episode on Streets Ahead in the evening 😃

With thanks to @kidicalmassreading.bsky.social and Reading Borough Council for providing the children with bike lights!

In Reading we've got vans, buses and even lorries with @edhawkins.org warming stripes on them. I have the feeling we're missing something... #UoR #UniversityOfReading #ShowYourStripes

Brussels has made fantastic progress. Not having been there in over a decade, I couldn't believe my eyes when I recently returned to the Boulevard Anspach. Previously a noisy, smelly, car-infested hellhole, now a vibrant and lively pedestrianized area.
