Yes, my point (if there is any doubt) is that the semantics is a common excuse to justify the abuse. The first time I heard it was from Cardinal McCarrick to justify the behavior of abusive priests. McCarrick was later found to be an abuser himself.

Technically, he wasn't a pedophile, which is someone attracted to prepubescent children. Hebephiles are attracted to pubescent children, and ephebophiles to postpubescent teens. Abusers often use this psychiatric distinction to justify their abuse and claim innocence. It's still wrong, regardless.
