#DLDday is coming, so I’m starting a thread over a few days.

DLD (Developmental Language Disorder) is all about spoken language. Words and sentences are tricky for people with DLD. And people don’t grow out of it.

Although… (being cynical), 3 years is not a long time to develop and trial new resources and protocols, and get them into schools.

In 2,000 children followed from Grades 1–9, we find that #LearningDifficulties co-occur strongly with each other, but only weakly with #ADHD.
While ADHD affects reading comprehension over time, it does not drive reading fluency or arithmetic.

30% of students with SEND have speech, language and communication needs. It's the most common need.
It doesn't get anything like the profile that it should. After all these years of working in this sector that still flummoxes me.
Data from the Department for Education shows that 30% of children with SEND have speech and language challenges.
