Yes. Now do this for the other stuff, too.
IT'S OFFICIAL: Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York State, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island and New York City have formed the Northeast Public Health Collaborative.

The collaborative will issue their own vaccine recommendations and coordinate public health efforts.

My first stick chair. I used salvaged wood I had on hand, Douglas fir and ash spindles. The saddle is thin at 1” but I don’t weigh much. It’ll live outside so I have someplace to sit and watch the sun go down.

Lily of the Valley. It’s pernicious and nearly impossible to keep control of, but for two weeks it’s beautiful.

1 / Going into what’s expected to be a big weekend of protests around the US, my team at the Crowd Counting Consortium (@djpressman.bsky.social, Soha Hammam & Chris Shay) has issued our monthly data release. TLDR: protest in the US is growing at an impressive pace. A few key highlights:

A side table I made a couple of years ago. Sapele with a canary wood top.

So - I've actually led Ebola outbreak response at USAID.

This is bunk from Elon. They have laid off most of the experts, they're bankrupting most of the partner orgs, have withdrawn from WHO, and muzzled CDC.

What's left is a fig-leaf effort to cover their asses politically.
Elon Musk: "We will make mistakes. We won't be perfect ... so for example, with USAID, one of the things we accidentally canceled very briefly was ebola prevention."

I did not realize until today that Lake Winnipeg has a larger surface area than Lake Ontario.

Is there anything more hilarious than a libertarian with a taxpayer-funded job? On a related note, here’s a candid photo from Rocky Neck state park in Connecticut.

Another oldie. My Dutch tool chest with a mobile base cabinet I added later. I’ve since added more storage racks for layout tools and moved my smoothing planes to the lower shelf. I keep my No. 5 & 6 up top with my block planes. All my saws are in a separate till.

The rule of law is like a trademark. If you don’t defend it, you lose it. I’m here for all the attorneys filing suit against this illegal power grab. More of this please. Most of the shenanigans will be struck down. But if courts rule for Trump, at least we will know what kind of country we’re in.

I made this a while ago as an auction item for a local nonprofit. Turns out this nonprofit used about $1.2M in PPP loans to pay down debt instead of its expressed purpose. The loans were later forgiven. Caveat Emptor. Anyway…it’s black walnut and white oak, a combination I’m particularly fond of.

I follow some Russian woodworkers on other platforms. Why? Because they are not oligarchs, they are craftspeople. They are not getting rich under the Putin regime, they are victims of that regime. For those of you outside the U.S. please remember this in the years to come.

I'm struck by the near-total failure of leadership across civil society, in a country that fetishizes the concept. Whole sections of leadership books at every bookstore. Named, endowed "leadership" institutes and curricula across higher ed. Awards and special recognition for "leaders." AND YET

A tea box I made for a friend. White oak with cherry interior.

Dutch tool chests fit my shop organization the best. But…I always wanted to build an anarchist (aka English) tool chest. Last year I built a downsized version for my carving tools using a bunch of free pine I got from a neighbor. I’m happy with the result except perhaps for the milk paint finish.

A small table in cherry with an ash top. There’s also some black walnut inlaid strips and through-tenon wedges.

I might be off by a few years but it seems like American Christians stopped asking themselves “what would Jesus do” right around the time they started listening to conservative talk radio. I guess that’s when they stopped reading the Gospel, specifically those parts printed with red ink.

I’m a hobbyist woodworker. Gradually moving my portfolio from kneepad social. Or bootlicker social or however you choose to label it.

Here’s nightstand 2 of two completed last summer. All cherry with hand-textured panels.
