Ramblings about Dwarf Fortress, Doctor Who, Tolkien, roguelikes, and other nonsense. He/him
In the 1990s there were two rpgs, Another World, and Flashback, by delphine software. Neither one had a single line of dialogue

A transforming one presumably, for extra punnage

I'll give Ostranauts its due, it IS one of those games like DF, where no-one else is quite trying to do what they're doing :)

Oh, totally, it just reads the .xml file you can export in Legends mode. Game doesn't even need to be open.

It also has a map, which was always the big shortcoming in Legends; seeing all those places and having no idea where they are in relation to each other

As a long time player, I'm always pleased to see how many people a) love reading about the game, but b) have no intention of being mad enough to try and play it

"Every time I open my mouth, both sides get mad at me. Clearly they're not on my intellectual level"

If you haven't got it already, I recommend Legends Viewer Next, which can read your exported world history, and is a lot easier to search and cross-reference in a browser tab instead of in-game :) github.com/Kromtec/Lege...

Exactly. Funny like a clown funny. Occasional humor, and a fair amount of anxiety and and unease whenever you see him doing his thing

That, by the way, is the single emotion he's felt since entering the pond. No unhappiness at being wet, or cold, or any regret, or much of anything.

Berserk with rage for three days of the month, but otherwise he's having a grand time down there

At least Trump can be funny.

There will be no funny under Vance. No funny, only cringe, endless cringe

The one thing the left and right agree on, across the board: That Bill Maher can fuck RIGHT off

I'm thinking of Caves of Qud, where sometimes you start a game, and the warden in the starting village turns out to hate one of the questgivers based on their reputation, there's a brief exchange of gunfire or mutant powers, and well, I guess we're not doing THAT quest this run

Also I'd recommend old radio shows. The BBC did a very good version of lord of the rings years back, and I'm also thinking hitchhikers guide to the galaxy. Full audio plays broadcast on radio in half hour episodes is what I'm on about, a lot of those can be found free online.

That's a very close guess, DF is basically "Moria Simulator"

Positive AI to me would be Iain Banks' Culture level of AI. Something far beyond humanity in terms of intelligence, but benevolent.

So, you know, the exact opposite of what we have

Awesome, siege engine list was top of MY list for suggestions :)

Bonus points if they give birth during a fight and just keep on swinging

I think it's in one of the old dungeons & dragons manuals somewhere, "Tensor's Infinitely Extending Shirt"
November 16, 2025 at 5:38 AM
It really does help. I can't imagine doing all the orders manually after the first season or so, it'd be a slog. With orders, you just go "make 10 of these if we have enough materials, and if we have less than 50 total, repeat. And check how many we have regularly"
