This thinking is related to the RW’s affinity for sneering at empathy and vice signaling. And even JD Vance perversely glorying in getting booed. If people despise you for what you are saying, you must be telling the truth, because why else would you say something despicable?
"Only good guys lie, because the brutal truths of reality are inconvenient for their ideology. Once you become evil, you embrace those truths and don't lie because the brutality suits your purposes" is something a lot of people seem to believe despite it *clearly* being propaganda for Team Evil!
