domestic abuse, sexual violence, etc is virtually unprosecuted because it isn't *in practice,* a crime at all--it's the exercise of legitimate force by the person who holds the right to govern, over and against the person who must BE governed.

i promise they have a real social media manager making approximately $100,000 a year if that makes you feel better about saying a mean thing

maybe the world would be kinder if people were actually compelled to at least pretend they care

i don't have a remedy for this. it would be easy to tell people not to treat survivors and their experiences like an inconvenience but that seems like a pretty hollow admonition. be especially considerate to adult survivors in your life during this time, maybe? also not a real solution

a lot of these adults choose not to intervene because they stand to gain from a continued relationship with the perpetrator, directly or indirectly. many, many more fail to intervene because to do so would be inconvenient
