For that matter, can they even conceive of any form of success online without the involvement of a major tech company? Are they only aware of what the algorithm and the platform supply for success?

And I really wonder what their relationship to the internet is. Do they purely know it from the lens of TikTok, Youtube, Instagram, etc? Are followers and likes actually important to the average young person not trying to be a content creator? Or are they all trying to be one?

The part that is really crazy to me is that there are an abundance of young people who never knew what the internet once was and what was given up. We once thought of 'starting a website' no differently then someone creates a social media account.

I know it's still a bit early but I feel their blog today (shorturl.at/wEGaG) is a step in the right direction. If they had been clear about their intents and goals up front, this might have been avoided. Still monitoring the situation but open to buying that X1C again (for the moment).
