In October, the U.S. Department of Labor reduced the wages of workers who hold H-2A visas. Base wage rate for H-2A workers will drop by around $5 per hour under the new rule. Cuts of that magnitude put an already economically disadvantaged population in even more financial hardship.

NYS DOL has guidelines for how to handle extreme temperatures, but no legal protections. WJCNY supports NY Senate Bill S3412, which provides regulation of indoor and outdoor worksites with temperature protection standards, to ensure that employers provide safe conditions for employees.
Texas workers are dying from heat, but business leaders and Republicans support a ban on local protections, because too many different laws will confuse businesses.

But they oppose a national OSHA standard as well.
