Every worker deserves a good job, one that pays a living wage and includes robust benefits. NELP is leading the fight to make a good-jobs economy a reality.
As #BigTech wields its political muscle to stifle regulation at the federal and state levels, #NewYork must act on behalf of #workers.

It’s time for @zohrankmamdani.bsky.social & the New York City Council to ban surveillance price- and wage-setting. Learn why here: www.nelp.org/to-make-new-...
To Make New York More Affordable the Next Mayor Should Ban “Surveillance” Pay and Price Setting - National Employment Law Project
Mayor-elect Mamdani can promote higher pay and lower consumer prices is by halting the rapid growth of individualized “surveillance” wage and price setting.

NELP wishes all #workers and their families a safe and restful holiday season.

Despite a challenging year of relentless attacks on workers, our movements and communities continued to fight for good jobs with living wages and the protections – the foundation of a #GoodJobsEconomy.

Big Tech’s rollout of algorithmic surveillance tools have made app-based workers’ ability to afford to live #NewYorkCity even more precarious.

Policymakers in #NYC can fight back against this latest instance of corporate greed by banning surveillance wage-setting: www.nelp.org/to-make-new-...

Uber, Lyft, and other app-based corporations can take up to 70% of a ride’s cost for their own profit, leaving drivers with next to nothing.

They’re ripping off employees and price-gouging consumers — all while raking in billions. I’m introducing a bill to fix this broken system.

“We need guardrails on corporations’ conduct - including limiting how these corporations use our data, so they can’t pay two workers different amounts, based on their personal data. Its time to hold corporations accountable and pass the Empowering App-Based Workers Act.” - NELP's Laura Padin

As an electrician, I knew who my boss was, knew my pay, and knew how decisions were made. Workers in the app-based economy, like Uber and DoorDash drivers, deserve the same transparency. That is why @jayapal.house.gov and I introduced the Empowering App-Based Workers Act.

“For decades now, we've seen corporations sell working people a myth about flexibility and independence. Corporations are using platforms to make workers compete each other against for jobs, drive down wages and working conditions – while charging customers more.” - NELP's Laura Padin

Workers deserve dignity and transparency. Yesterday at the Capitol, NELP's Laura Padin spoke fiercely about the reality of app-based work. The Empowering App-Based Workers Act finally brings sunlight, fairness, and limits on how much corporations take from each fare.

Congress needs to pass it.

Thanks to @jayapal.house.gov and all the amazing app-based workers and advocates from across the country who gathered in DC for the launch of the Empowering App-Based Workers Act! We stand with app-based workers calling for transparency, accountability, and fair pay.
App-based workers are being ripped off by the corporations they create profits for.

Today, I introduced my Empowering App-Based Workers Act to promote better pay, more transparency on the algorithms that decide when they work, and to make the gig economy more fair overall.
