#henryjohnhatch Mary Eugenia Plummer was found guilty. She was sent to Holloway for 3 weeks to be followed by 2 years' 'detention'. Less than 3 weeks later, she received the Royal Pardon. Henry was released and started an epic series of actions to gain some compensation. 5/n

Mary Eugenia Plummer's five-day trial was a sensation. Her mother, Caroline, was drunk in the witness box; her father, Thomas, admitted that he had paid the doctor's bill for a servant whom Caroline Plummer had beaten with a candlestick, "Not a poker..." 4/n

#history The Royal Petition was rejected, but Henry's friends advertised for funds to bring an action against his principal accuser, Mary Eugenia Plummer, now aged 12. More than £700 was raised, and in May 1860, she was charged at the Old Bailey with Wilful and Corrupt perjury. 3/n

#history Henry's counsel had not called any material defence witnesses. Henry's friends petitioned the Queen for his release. The petition included detailed statements from witnesses not heard in court. Having read it, 11 of the jury who had tried Henry said they now thought him innocent. 2/n

Fool yourself. You miss the point: of course Trump was always going to pardon the rioters! But Biden, by pardoning his son, has in one single act deserted the high ground and reduced his integrity to the gutter along with Trump.
