NB Elon Musk; from 'Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy', your favourite SciFi work: “It is a well known and much lamented fact that … anyone who is capable of getting themselves made President should on no account be allowed to do the job”.

#history In 1859, Henry John Hatch, ex chaplain of Wandsworth Prison, was convicted at the Old Bailey for the indecent assault of two young girls. He was sentenced to 4 years in Newgate. But his defence was botched; there was disquiet in the press, and many people thought he was innocent. 1/n

My new pamphlet "Anatomy of a Bridge" is published by Mirli Books today. It describes Brunel's "Little known masterpiece", a skew bridge carrying the Great western Railway over the Uxbridge Turnpike in Hanwell, West London. Mirlibooks.com

The banner picture on my profile is a photograph of I K Brunel's famous railway bridge over the Thames at Maidenhead taken in the 1860s.

Most of my writing has been about 19th C social history. Soon I will publish a pamphlet on Brunel's skew bridge at Hanwell, West London. A notable landmark, although twice the girders failed, and it was badly damaged by fire. Dubbed Brunel's 'little known masterpiece', it was rebuilt in 1906.

I daresay I will have caused Elon Musk a few sleepless nights by deleting my 'X' account. Unfortunately the fact that he has created some wonderful products—Space X, Tesla—does not mean that his head hasn't come undone, as demonstrated by his joining the crazies in the Trump administration.
