I don't see how what they describe possibly for 2028 is anything other then a Hybrid conference but perhaps they are building an argument for it to fit under "extending the bar"? I suppose votes already take place on electronic devices and if another city is in the bar 🤷🏽♂️

The issue for the last GC was a combination of having contracted planning window to flip 2020 virtual, then for 2021-2024 no prior precedent, plan or experience w/ multi-continent hybrid event, high stakes votes, future of the church, and not wanting to be ruled out of order. And financing it.

I think there are some requirements that make virtual/hybrid out of order without some rule bending. I can't remember if it had to do with voting... I should probably look it up.

I hope this GC commission creates a sub-commission with the best and most experienced United Methodists specifically selected for planning a hybrid GC28 and virtual option not just for 28 but the framework for 32/36/40 if needed.

I hope this GC commission creates a sub-commission with the best and most experienced United Methodists specifically selected for planning a hybrid GC28 and virtual option not just for 28 but the framework for 32/36/40 if needed.
If this potential hybrid GC is fumbled at all the UMC will likely never consider a hybrid or virtual conference again, postponing another GC or in the case of another GC20/24 it will settle for an incredibly limited and Spirit restricted online GC.

If it were fully online that would be easier!
A hybrid event is like planning 3 events, the in-person and online portion and the interaction between the two spaces. This is saying nothing of how online attendees are often treated in historical in-person settings like classrooms and conferences.

Nothing against them but we need people who specifically have experience and passion to Poland and pull off such a unique event.

Oh I don't doubt that. No Kings has been huge here but I think what little structure here is worth rebuilding on vs doing something new and inviting people into that. FL has already been abandoned by Dems nationally so nothing list there.
