There are certain things that really infuriate him. Authority figures who abuse their power, authority figures in general, privileged people, manipulative privileged people, dark mages, idealism, dressing in formal clothes, and on some days, all of humanity.

So many writers have low points. I’ve felt like shit. I’m very thin-skinned. And you can’t ruin it for anyone else. I hope there will be a time when you don’t feel so bad about your writing.

It’s okay if you don’t want to talk about writing anymore. But I hope one day you’ll be able to do it again.

It makes sense it still haunts Fox. Losing your mother is so painful.

I love that Hana is so generous and forgiving of people. I love the way she sees the best in people who probably don’t deserve it. But if I were actually friends with her, I’d be frustrated by the way she disregards red flags and gives people far too many chances.

Honestly I prefer reading about relationships!

There have been SO many times a character doesn’t work for me, but everyone else adores them. So what I would say is that I keep all feedback in mind, but I need to see if there is a consensus or if it’s one subjective opinion.

And that might be a subjective opinion. For every one person who dislikes a mc, there could be 10 readers who love that character. You don’t have to accept it if it’s wrong.

It's one thing to consider feedback. It doesn't mean you have to do it. When I get criticism, I consider, spiral, then return to the story and decide if it will help to accept it. It depends. It's definitely important to listen to feedback, but if it doesn't help your story, don't use it.

Did the person ask for advice? If they did, they're free to listen or disregard it, but you have done nothing wrong in that situation. You aren't forcing anyone to make those changes.

Subjective feedback is often wrong. I was insecure and doubted myself because of one person. Then I found a lot more people who enjoyed my character, thought she worked, and the story wouldn't work without her. It's great to listen to advice, but that doesn't mean all advice will benefit the story.

It's normal not to cut the mc based on the subjective feedback of a single person. If I had done that, I would have lost a character that readers loved.
