True.

In many locations the newly arrived extreme heat is making agriculture unviable. In such locations, it is a win win.

Solar panels provide shade & allows agriculture to continue (shade keeps soil moist that would have dried out).

Such locations are all across Italy, Spain & Greece

🧵Let's talk repowering! Wind energy has been around for a long time & many turbines are nearing the end of their lifespan. Re-powering means replacing old turbines with new ones thus quadrupeling the energy harvest from an area.

This just in: Science says, wind turbines do actually not have a measurable impact on bird count! Their impact on birds Population is a common argument against the development of wind farmer. In his 2024 study E.Katovich looked at North American Bird populations, wind farms and shale wells.

160 #windturbines are possible in Tyrol, we currently have: 0
Reactionary regional politics in cahoots with fear of change are the reasons for that. Tyrolians are especially afraid of wind turbines being ugly. Tyrolians have no issue with ~3400 km of ski slopes cutting through their landscape.

After an onshore wind turbine is build it does not take long for the fauna to grow back around it. Something even more amazing is happening with offshore-power plants. They have the "artificial reef effect" thus literally creating new habitats and shelter.

🧵 2024 Austria will only get 13 new wind turbines. Considering that last year 70 turbines were connected to the grid, and we would annually need 150 turbines/1.000 MW to be carbon neutral in 2040, that is laughably low.

They also sell Austria's greenest energy. What does that mean? Not only is the energy from green sources, the company also works to reduce carbon emissions in their strategic decision.

Upper Austria only approved 3 wind turbines (that's right, single turbines not wind parks) in the last 10 years. Development this slow shows a lack in commitment to combat #climatechange
