oilbirds are a contender. they're only distantly related to any other living species of bird and have evolved over millions of years to share an ecological niche with frugivorous bats, to the point where they also use echolocation and just generally look and act rather batlike. convergent evolution!

the resplendent quetzal is the national bird of guatemala. it has long been held as an anti-colonialist symbol because of how poorly it does in captivity. they're omnivores that tend to live in old woodpecker holes.

(cw animal death) shrikes are cute but kind of freaky. they eat insects, small mammals, lizards, and other birds despite being quite small themselves, and tend to cache their dead prey on thorns or other sharp objects (both to eat later and to mark their territory for other shrikes.)

the innermost layer of clothing is pretty much incidental to the actual full costume i wore to tonight's party... but i realized partway through the night that it works fine as a closet cosplay of BLANK, so karma snapped a few pictures >w>
