Great reporting from The Marshall Project. We seriously need to put the humanity back in our healthcare system. These stories are heartbreaking.

If the Supreme Court were a normal court doing normal court things—like applying precedent—deciding whether discriminating against transgender youth violates the Constitution would be an easy case.

But it’s not a normal court, and so the future for trans rights looks bleak.

The Constitution Protects Transgender People. The Supreme Court May Have Other Ideas
Tennessee’s ban on gender-affirming care for youth looks like a clear case of sex discrimination—that is, if justices put precedent over politics.

Daylighting (the practice of creating open space around cross-walks to promote visibility for both pedestrians and drivers) is being introduced before NYC council. Long way to go, but I can't overstate how beneficial this would be for promoting pedestrian safety in the city

This this this. No matter what happens, we showed up, and will continue to do so.

While the make-up of the court is daunting, this is what gives me hope. So grateful for all the trans lawyers, activists, kids, and allies today and every day.
NEW: Trans people centered themselves in a trans case before a very not trans court. Not only was Chase Strangio arguing Wednesday, but a trans plaintiff was in the courtroom, as were many other trans lawyers, journalists, and observers.

"Trans people were not hidden Wednesday, and that matters."

It shouldn't take the assassination of an insurance CEO for these companies to realize that their policies (which this roll-back demonstrates can be undone at the swipe of a pen and are purely profit-seeking) cause massive social harm

we have moved at an accelerating pace towards a place of extremely low social trust and trust in institutions generally

there are a lot of people who are profiting from the causes of declining trust, and none of them are going to like the consequences

unfortunately, neither will the rest of us
like: take a look at Reddit - it's not just LinkedIn and Bluesky treating the guy who did yesterday as a folk hero

something's gotta be fixed before things get worse
this is both incredibly bad and yet also probably a sign of institutional rot and gridlock in the USA
