I found a vintage radio in the donation pile at the charity I volunteer for. eBay had one like it for $1200. This one isn't perfect, but it'll probably bring the thrift store quite a bit of cash.

I think your original usage is pretty standard when referring to Appalachia as a cultural region. It gets squishy in the context of geology; for example, the Allegheny Plateau underlies some of central Ohio but has there been glaciated flat enough that the economics are very different from SE Ohio.
