Solidarity with trans, non-binary and intersex folks following the Supreme Court ruling today.

As someone with a condition that can be considered an intersex variation I'm disturbed and upset by this reductive definition of women.

For International Women's Day we celebrate the "Idle Women" who worked on the canals during WW2. With young men away there was a crew shortage, so they challenged stereotypes to keep vital cargo moving. Find out more: thisweekculture.com/article/kate...

We've objected to another development threatening the @wiltsberks.bsky.social, this time housing that would block the Melksham Link. Good planning should provide homes *and* protect heritage. If you want to support, object before 12th March: waterways.org.uk/about-us/new...

Our response to the Neath & Tennant Canals consultation is making waves 🌊 Council was surprised by strong local passion for the Grade II* Aqueduct. The National Resources Wales consultation (now closed) didn't mention it's a Scheduled Ancient Monument and listed, we set them right

Our inland waterways are an underutilised & more climate-friendly mode of transport infrastructure.

But lack of access to the waterside in new developments is a real blocker, says the Inland Waterways Freight Group's Gerry Heward.

The future of the waterways is in good hands. My 5yr old saw some litter floating in the marina and immediately asked to get his net to fish it out. We got a whole bin-bag full. #ukcanals #thekidsarealright

Do you know?
Do you know (without looking at our website!) roughly how many miles of navigable waterways there are in England, Scotland and Wales? The answer is here:

IWA act as secretariat to the APPG on Waterways. Members met this week to decide the programme for the year which ranges from the impacts of climate change to the social and mental health benefits waterways offer, with focus throughout on the need for adequate funding.

Lovely 4.5 mile walk from Harefield to Ruislip using the @slowwaysuk.bsky.social map. Really love this idea of curated, verified routes connecting places, having recently been frustrated by a now non-existent route on an OS map.

Made some absolutely delicious flapjack earlier. Secret ingredient: some golden syrup flavour microwave porridge that I used to make up the quantity of oats 😋. Also small boy squeezed in an unknown amount of extra golden syrup!

How absolutely fascinating.
Always regret not writing more on mechanics of broadcasting in old job.

Anyway, I *did not know* that the reason BBC Radio 4 still broadcasts on long wave in 2025 is that it secretly carries the Economy 7 signal for cheap overnight power on old electricity meters.

We've been using HVO in our diesel heater for a while and its great. Less smelly, no change in performance. It's not easy to get hold of though, and so IWA and others are looking to change that.
New generation #biofuels are the best way to reduce emissions from boats. Together with the #RYA, #BritishMarine and the #CruisingAssociation we're asking boaters to respond to a Govt call for evidence & make them more available. Find out how to respond: www.theca.org.uk/hvo-for-boats
