I think you have the idea in that the choices are trade him and turn the page, or you move forward and commit. But it was one or the other. No keep him and not pay him.

Ok but you’re making an entirely different argument - that they should’ve traded him. But they weren’t. They were signing 34 year old Paul George. So they were all in.

How’s that going for them again? They’re literally being excoriated by their entire fan base. And rightfully so. Maybe not the best counter example.

And honestly, at this point, given the permanent uncertain nature of his health, who am I to say “Don’t’ go play for and win a gold medal” when that may be the pinnacle of his career.

Teams have no choice there either. He really wanted to play and win a gold medal. I disagreed with it too, but they couldn’t and weren’t going to talk him out of it.
