Busy day yesterday at the London International Festival of Early Music: 3 concerts, a makers' demo and a book launch!

Drowning in apples, and having hesitated over buying a press, I made some do-it-yourself juice today. About 12 (small) apples made one glass of juice. Brings a new dimension to the description "cloudy".

Nice little trip to the library today.

Bircher muesli for breakfast. Apples, blueberries and figs from the garden.

Thought I'd rake out the windfalls from under the tree. (And yes, those are 3 different piles, not the same one from 3 angles!)

Good lord look at these.

I'm kind of glad the wasps/ants/ butterflies are getting most of these; I don't think I could keep up.

It seems the figs all ripened while we were away last week. Most of them on the tree are now providing much delight for many wasps and butterflies.

Bit overwhelmed by all the (cooking) apples. This a fraction of them, and all from one tree.

Nice crop of blueberries. 💙

It's been like flying ant day here the last day or two but with dandelion seeds! I think our "lawn" next year will be mostly dandelions.

First time making (no cross) buns in the Rayburn. Best ones I've ever made! (with the exception of the burning obviously....)

Did something today I haven't done since I was a child; cooked jacket potatoes in a bonfire.
(Yes, they're burnt, and yes, they were delicious.)

Ploughing through all the stuff in my parents' house. Never thought of them as hoarders, but it turns out they kept, um, pretty much everything. Amongst some of my primary school "sums" books (from about 1971), I found this.

I have three reviews to go for the Obs but today, after 180 of them, is my last column for OFM. So I thought I’d summarise my searing advice from the last 15 years: the wisdom, the provocations and the occasional stupidities. Enjoy. Or grind your teeth. Your call
