In January 2007, Hollywood historian and blogger Scott Michaels made an appointment to meet with Diller, then 89 years old, to view her original paintings as a potential buyer. Michaels recounted many details of their meeting, including this exchange about the "pork chop joke."

Diller: "I wrote that one. I had to tie a pork chop around my neck to get the dog to play with me."

Michaels: "That is a classic joke."

Diller: "That’s what happens to a good joke."

A man of the people, clearly.
