For today’s #LayoverLibrary, I’m reading ‘City Limits’ by @megankimble.bsky.social. The book focuses on the stories of people whose neighborhoods were affected by construction of the highways and those fighting highway expansion today while working to rebuild community.

50 years later… with a load of iron ore- twenty six thousand tons more than the Edmund Fitzgerald weighed empty, and all that remains is the faces and the names

Construction on IndyGo’s new transit center, the ‘Eastside Mobility Hub’ is underway on the city’s far eastside. When completed, the facility will serve Routes 10, 21, 87, and 91 (Blue Line).

Another developer is proposing another data center - this time in Pike Township in Indianapolis on 7 acres of land occupied by a dense forest and television tower.

It’s critical we fight back again. Email planneroncall@indy.gov and tell them to oppose 2025-ZON-116.

Congrats to Miami Dade Transit on passing IndyGo for the longest all electric BRT route in the US and the incredible upgrades to the MD Busway! Hope to ride it soon!

For today’s #LayoverLibrary, I’m reading ‘Bowling Alone’ by Robert Putnam. The book maps out the causes of the decline of social capital in the US, including mass media and suburban sprawl, and offers suggestions for how to revive social capital in the US.

Indianapolis is expanding the city’s ’Regional Center’ in an effort to promote more walkable, transit friendly neighborhoods across a wider swath of the city! You can submit public comments beginning today here: www.indy.gov/activity/reg...

My favorite of these edgelands in Indy is this little spot along a creek, a surface parking lot on both sides, and an abandoned bridge.

For today’s #LayoverLibrary, I’m reading ‘A Natural History of Empty Lots’ by @christopherbrown.bsky.social. The book follows the author’s exploration of Austin’s urban wilds and advocates for their preservation in the face of irresponsible development.

With the news that Washington Square is for sale, I can’t help but think of the possibilities for this massive blighted space.

This space could be turned into a large car free village of sorts, with a portion of the property further away from the Blue Line repurposed as a park/preserve.

Blue Line BRT Platform construction underway at Cherry Tree Plaza and Washington Square!

Westfield has by far the worst section of the Monon. Just randomly turns into a curb tight side path, plus this little treat of a ‘dangerous intersection’ where they haven’t even bothered to turn the crossing signal on. And they tar seal the ENTIRE surface of the trail so it is ROUGH

In total, including the leg home, this was 63.24 miles long.

Indiana’s favorite rail trail just got a little bit longer this month! On October 3, the city of Sheridan opened the Monon Trail to the Boone County line, which gave me enough motivation to ride the entire thing this morning!

Indy’s latest office to residential conversion is poised to start construction soon. Dubbed ‘Pembroke Place’, the conversion includes 179 units, indoor bike storage, and restoration of the building’s vault as a game room and lounge.
