The UDC wants the Plan Commission to send the project back to the UDC to work over the site plan again and then approve or not approve it, but the UDC only has authority to give advice to the Plan Commission, not approve the project. This is clearly inappropriate but the PC usually plays along.

Based on what I have heard Ald Rummel say in meetings, she doesn’t believe there is any such thing as “the market,” so that is irrelevant to her. She doesn’t believe that supply and demand determines prices.

Because the building is in Planned Development, modification of the SIP was required—no approval would be required otherwise. City staff determined it was a minor SIP modification that staff could approve, but city staff chose to make the building owner present it to the UDC for advice.

I spoke to a Madison alder recently who suggested that the next Common Council after the election might have more alders who do NOT support denser housing development. Some of the current pro-density might have anti-density challengers.

Actually, Ald Rummel wanted the developer to increase the unit count by making some of the units smaller. Some nearby residents wanted the building to be shrunk from the proposed 6 stories to 5 stories.

The person who wants to acquire the moved house wants the Plan Commission to deny approval of the demolition permit to force the nonprofit affordable housing developer to give him $35,000 more than than the developer has offered toward the cost of moving the house.
